It may be my hardware configuration. I am glad that you like Mandriva One. I
used it for a few days before retiring it. I will try 2009 when it comes out or
maybe one of the betas. Mandriva is experiencing a bit of a resurgence which I
am glad to see. Thanks for running your trials. Note: how long does it take to
install Windows? I find that it takes at least an hour. I don't really know
because unlike Linux you can't do anything while it is installing. I am typing
this on my computer while Ubuntu 8.10 installs. :)

Ok here are the results. This is a less that scientific study of course.

Processor AMD XP 3000 (32 bit)
RAM 1.5
HDD 40 gig (slave) partitiond to 10 gig / and 30 gig /home. Formatted
both partitions at install.

Mandriva One from Linux Format DVD 13 minutes (Live Install)
Mandriva One from Live CD 15 minutes
Ubuntu 8.04 from Linux Format DVD 18 minutes

The times are from clicking the Install Icon on the desktop to logging
onto a user GUI.

I believe Roy, you have 64 bit processor? Maybe that makes a difference?

This may explain why I've stuck with Mandriva.. it just plays nice
with my hardware.

Regards

Steve
