A service I am using now, especially since I bought my eeePC which I use as a
media player and ebook reader is Dropbox. It is a free account that enables you
to save up to 20 GBs to the net and it creates a folder in your home folder
called Dropbox. You can link to public folders and invite friends to access
folders you want to share with friends and family. If you put a file into that
folder on your computer it is synced to the net and you can add and remove
files from anywhere you can get an internet connection. I put photos, videos,
pdfs, music and recipes in Dropbox. Now I can use my tiny eeePC as a recipe
book, photo album, media player and library. It is very handy.
The site is: getdropbox.com.You need to set up an account and you can download
a client for Ubuntu 8.04 and 7.10 (x86 and 64-bit), plus Fedora 9 (both 32 and
64-bit). Source code is available for other distros. I got the Ubuntu 7.10
version to install in SimplyMEPIS as it is just Debian at its core. I am not
sure if RPM users will be able to install the Fedora version in their distro as
RPMs are not so forgiving. You can get away without downloading a client as you
can upload manually from your browser.
Enjoy!
Roy
