I'm assuming that "# dd if=/dev/hdb1 of=/dev/hda10" will achieve my
goal, am I correct in the following scenario? I'm using Mepis 7.0,
(debian), and I need some reassurance as to my conclusion(s) after
some googling.
Will the use of- # dd if=/dev/hdb1 of=/dev/hda10 -clone hdb1's
contents into hda10 and at the same time delete the contents of hda10
when the command above is used while booted with a Knoppix liveCD?
My confusion emanates form the fact that while in Mepis 7.0 and while
in Kubuntu 8.04 also, hdb1 is named "sdb1" and and hda10 is named
"sda10" - why the difference? Why do they not continue being hdb1 and
hda10 respectively?
IOW, I want to clone one partition in another destination partition
while at the same time wiping the contents of the destination
partition. Will "# dd if=/dev/hdb1 of=/dev/hda10" work or not?
If not, what command need I use?
TIA for whatever guidance you can offer me.
Armando
