We all learn this the hard way. :) Don't worry, though, you should probably be able to get your documents back. Your Ubuntu install is on /dev/sda8, judging from the grub.conf you've posted. You should be able to mount it, as root or using sudo with mount /dev/sda8 /mnt Then, look in /mnt and you will, hopefully, see a home partition. In there, should be your username, and you should be able to copy these important things to your Fedora partition. From there, copy them to CD, USB stick, or some other place where they're safe.
