Hrrm, it's possible Fedora messed something up during installation, it's
famous for that.

Which is usually the best way to do it. However, you already had Ubuntu
installed and then installed Fedora, right? I've seen similar threads
on Fedora forums--I'm not sure what goes on with it, as I usually
install Fedora first.

One should always back up important things before doing an installation
that has a risk. We all learn this the hard way. :)

Don't worry, though, you should probably be able to get your documents
back. Your Ubuntu install is on /dev/sda8, judging from the grub.conf
you've posted. You should be able to mount it, as root or using sudo
with

mount /dev/sda8 /mnt

Then, look in /mnt and you will, hopefully, see a home partition. In
there, should be your username, and you should be able to copy these
important things to your Fedora partition. From there, copy them to CD,
USB stick, or some other place where they're safe. Once that's done, we
can worry about the rest of it, but let's get your important things
saved and backed up first.

Buffy: Mom, the only way you get a new slayer is if the old
slayer dies.
Joyce: Then that means you... When did you die? You never told me
you died.
Buffy: It was just for a few minutes.
