You are sure that they are enabled in the settings? I am running VB 4.x PUEL and usb works fine. You might try for a re-installation if it does not resolve itself. If you have lots of HD space you can rename your .VirtualBox folder and completely removing VirtualBox. Then re-install and copy back your VMs. I am scratching my head on this one.
