I posted my previous comment to help a fellow Debian user remain with Debian but resolve their issue. Mint et. al. aren't really viable solutions there. The rest is as they say complicated. BTW there are only three current Debian releases Lenny, Squeeze, and as always the boy to stay away from, Sid. Unless much like Martin in A.I. you think your toys look nicer broken that is. http://www.debian.org/releases/ Mint is apt based, but it's not Debian!
