Out of the list provided, if you are new to Linux, you would probably better off with Ubuntu. Knoppix is designed to be run live, that is, put the CD in (or make a USB), rather than installed. Ubuntu is actually based on Debian, and using Debian isn't much harder than using Ubuntu--not sure if it provides a GUI by default or if its default install is text. FreeBSD is a bit different. It's probably the best of the list, but requires more reading to get it working properly. However, its documentation is excellent, as are its forums. It's default installation is text based, and unlike, say, Ubuntu, which gives you a fully configured, almost Windows like desktop to start, with FreeBSD, you decide what to add after installation. It won't even have X configured when you first boot up after installation. Many people, including myself, consider this a plus, but many others prefer the ease of use and configuation offered by Ubuntu. I haven't used Slax, so can't comment on that one. I think it's also meant to be run as a live CD. -- Scott Robbins PGP keyID EB3467D6 ( 1B48 077D 66F6 9DB0 FDC2 A409 FA54 EB34 67D6 ) gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys EB3467D6 Willow: So, how did it go?
