jumping to boot code

Well, I have successfully got the kernel loaded and gunzipped off my hda1 partition. LinuxBIOS gets all the ways to the point where it jumps to the kernel(post card shows FE). Unfortunately I don't see any activity after that. I do, however, see my post card displaying an alternating 97 then 98. Any thoughts?
