dram is like that. When I was still designing microprocessor boards, and
the microprocessor hung, I would power cycle it and if I got back quickly,
most of the dram was still filled with whatever was there before the 
power cycle. Useful for debugging.

That's why some places like to have dram powered off for many many hours 
before they consider it 'wiped clean'.
