To clarify things, let me start from scratch:

I have a very current version of LinuxBIOS - I get updates from CVS daily.

I am using a toolchain (gcc, ld etc), from RH6.2, which I have always found
to be stable. (obviously I have updated modutils to use with 2.4.x kernels.

I am using Etherboot 5.0.6 Tagged ELF for SIS900.

I seem to get the impression that the linuxbiosmain() code is being
depricated, and I am also now doing a whole lot of work to try to get
Etherboot running from LinuxBIOS on a PII core, as well as a 486 core, so I
thought I would move towards using elfboot.

For a long time I have been using 2.4.2 thru 2.4.5 kernels, but because of
some new work I am doing, have decided to try some of the newer kernels
(2.4.17/2.4.18).

I hit this problem with a 2.4.18 kernel, then noticed Ollie had been using
2.4.17 so tried that too with the same disastrous results. I have now just
gone back to a 2.4.5 kernel and everything is magically fine.

I have not done enough debugging in the 2.4.17 environment, but it appears
to me that it is trying to interpret the e820 tables, even though (just
looking into LinuxBIOS code), LinuxBIOS sets up an empty e820 table. I need
to still have a thorough look at the Etherboot and elfboot code to see what
they does with e820 memory tables, if anything.
