Both should be a config option of course, as this is heavily dependent
on the respective setup you use.

Which could change with GRUB2, I think there were some plans at least.

This may be a stupid question, but is it possible to put kexec in the
ROM, too? Yes, it consumes some space, but I'm curious if it would be
possible.
