A generalized pipeline using svnversion when there are subdirectories
(possibly coming from svn:externals) could be:
find . -type d \
| grep -v "\.svn" \
| xargs -i svnversion -c {} \
| sed -e "s/.*://" -e "s/\([0-9]*\).*/\1/" \
| sort -un \
| tail -1
