The important thing is this (in Config.lb):

  device apic_cluster 0 on
    chip cpu/intel/slot_2
      device apic 0 on end
    end
  end

If you only use

  chip cpu/intel/slot_2
  end

that'll not do the full CPU init and thus result in a _very_ slow
system. I'm not entirely sure it's the _correct_ fix, but it _does_
fix the issue I have seen on the 440BX boards.
