True.  I guess the practical question is the SPD bus on the far side of
the PCI bus (making it effectively on southbridge)?  I think the SiS
chip is normal in this respect.   

Generally at least it is important to realize that to do SPD
transactions you most have a lot of hardware setup before it will
work.  Though the default state on power up seems to work for this
on the chipsets I've touched so far.
