AMD told me that the 762 is just a short term solution from AMD for SMP
proof of concept, market entry, design reference for chipset OEMs. They
don't plan on it being a long term supported product. AMD has done this
in the past with their earlier chipsets. Their focus tends to be on
making great CPU's and leaving the chipsets to the chipset makers.
Support for SMP K-7 will come from vendors like SiS who I'm certain will
be happily supporting it. And with the way SiS has been supporting
LinuxBIOS you may see SiS support before the AMD 762 support.

Without getting into a shameless plug <shameless plug>I know that we are
going to have AMD SMP LinuxBIOS support in very dense clusters in board
level solutions later this year.</shameless plug>

The LinuxBIOS AMD L-2 cache is working as SiS has shown, but it's
currently still under NDA with AMD. This is suppose to open up later
this year when AMD releases some new things I can't talk about yet
:-)...... but rumor has it that the L-2 cache init will be openly
available from AMD.
