Hello Eric,
Thank you very much for writing the exec_kernel-0.4
kernel module. It is a huge step forward in comparison to
having to patch the "core" kernel. I am so glad that I do not
have bloat our standard kernel with code that is only used
for specialized situations and which can be loaded on demand
when it is needed. Thank you very much for this. It is a
huge step forward.
I was wondering, however, if there is a newer version than
0.4. I tried to port exec_kernel-0.4 to linux-2.4.7-pre6 (exporting
the necessary additional symbol from the kernel), and the result was
that the kexec command just causes my system to do a hard reboot (to
lilo, not to the elf kernel+ramdisk image I made with mkelf) with the
kernel later locking up after configuring its CardBus interface. I
imagine this is may be my own error. However, I would rather check
and patch against the latest version of exec_kernel. Rather than
potentially duplicate or complicate your efforts.
I am cc'ing this message to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the only
list on which I've seen the exec_kernel module mentioned, in case
anyone else has been developing it and wants to chime in.
