Hello,
I'm new at this project, so I don't know much about it :-(
My project:
I want to make a MP3, CD, ... player for my HiFi rack. It
will be based on a linux kernel mode driver with support for
the MP3 hardware (see www.mp3pump.de). It's connected to a
normal PC via serial and parallel port. I will use it as
normal CD player as well. So the normal booting process is
too slow for me. I cannot wait 2 minutes before I can hear
some music. It's a very cool project coding your own CD
player with MP3 functionallity.
So your project is exactly what I need. Fast booting and
linux kernel.
Questions:
- What hardware do I have to buy ?
- Motherboard
- Is Matsonic MS7308E ok ? (I read about it, that it will
be working)
- Have this motherboard the BIOS chip already on a
socket ? Soldering on Motherboard is no fun.
- DiskOnChip 2000
- Where can I buy it ?
- How much does it cost ?
- Is the 32-DIP version ok ?
- Can I install other linux commands aswell (ls, mkdir,
...)?
- Can I use it as normal device and is it writeable for
logfiles, playlists, .... ?
- Is there a limitation of write accesses ? How often can
be written to the device ?
- How much of memory do I need (16-288MByte available) ?
- Do I need a harddisk on top ?
- 32-DIP Zero Insertion Force
- Where can I buy it ?
- How much does it cost ?
- Is it only easier to take out and put in the chip, or
is it for electronical reasons, too ? So does it take
the voltage off the chip before you can take it out ?
- What about EPROM sockets with a little holder on one
side ?
- Do I need some other hardware ?
- Am I right, that the original BIOS flash have to be taken
out of the socket while the computer is on and then the
DiskOnChip have to be put into the BIOS socket ? That
works ?? No voltage peaks ??
Next I have to burn the software to the DiskOnChip and
reboot. If something went wrong I have to put the old BIOS
Chip back in the socket and reboot again to find the bug
and install another version again to the DiskOnChip and
reboot again ....... .
Is there no switch box, that can handle both chips
inserted and then just a normal switch to select one of
them ?
ciao. Stefan
