As a fast warning, I am responding to the three threads that I
didn't see solutions to. I may have outdated or even wrong information..
As far as Linux writing graphics codes for vga, you don't need that if you
can get the very basic draw commands in which case you can use a
framebuffer. Of course this is still challenging. But if you can make
the very basic, generic framebuffer driver, LinuxBIOS just needs to turn
on the video card and initialize its ram and a few things.
So you don't need a VGA bios, and I think the consensus last time this
came up was that if we really want VGA bios support we'll hope the X guys
figure out how to emulate an 8086 for multi-headed X window systems.
Otherwise, so far we've stuck with framebuffers and LinuxBIOS card init.
