Title: RE: no return from init

 Got a prompt :-)))  . The catch was in inittab: we at last saw LinuxBIOS reacting to user mode - renaming init caused it to look for it instead of freezing when running it , thanks Brian - and so it boiled down to getting correct serial settings in the inittab. I suspect some kind of process respawning to be behind the reset after the system "froze". Probably also the exclusive serial kernel setting helped save the day.

no, turn off kernel vga support. Enable ONLY serial console support.
