The advantage of removable media is that you can make it read only.
Which adds an extra layer of security.  I am not that familiar
with disk on a chip, so perhaps you could make the filesystem
read only when it boots up.  Any other suggestions?

Also, I don't have a clear idea of which motherboards work well with
the 2.4.1x kernels.  I am looking for inexpensive motherboards and
reliable.
