If it's any help, I had this problem a while back. what I found was whenever the last chunk fell in a certain block it came up with CRC error, if I made the kernel slighly bigger so the last chunk fell in the next block or smaller so it fell in the previous block no problems, it just seemed like the same block was possessed with gremlins, I'm still using the same code, its dated 22 oct 2001.
