Guys, All looks well ... I've asked ALi for NDA's (through their VIA-esk web doc requester), but found some excellent sources on the net for ALi chipset information. I'm going to try and boot linux on the 5AX tonight (the old fashioned way), and now that my Cable connection has been fixed, I should finally be able to build that dev environment.
I've done a heap of reading on the SMBus ... I don't know who smoked what after version 1.0 ... but *damn* that got complicated fast ... ARP .. CRC checking .. 2.0 isn't pretty ! And that led me to ACPI, but I was almost asleep by the time I found that URL ... some interesting stuff for SMBus though ... might get me to tandy this week and see if I can't get some "bits" for PC :)
