I'm a little skeptical that just running it without one fan blade for 10 minutes caused it to overheat. Actually I'm a _lot_ skeptical. For a chip to overheat and die it has to get really hot. The heat sink should have become hot enough to burn you. AMD runs thier yeild margins much higher than Intel but as you said if it were _that_ sensitive it would croak if it were run in a moderatly hot room. > enough to kill the chip ... the machine no longer boots ... the POST card > says ... > > 00 > C0 > C1 > <pause> > 00 > C0 > C1 > <pause> Dosen't this indicate that the chip isn't dead? If its spitting out post codes then somethings got to be running. Those port writes to 0x80 aren't happening by themselves. Seems more likely to me that either: 1) The vibrations shook something loose on your mother board or damaged one of the pins on the uP. Re-seat your DIMMS. 2) In the process of mucking about with the fan and the floppy power connector you breifly shorted the 12V to something that didn't like it. -- Richard A. Smith Bitworks, Inc.
