The single most important factor for designing motherboards is bus
speed.  How fast are you gonna run that puppy?  That dictates a whole
buch of issues on how anal you have to be when routing things and the
level of calculations you have to do on selecting your buss
termination and what not.

Fex our last custom board runs fine with a fsb of  66Mhz but has
intermittent failures at 100Mhz.  Really difficult to track down as
well.

Ugh.. Are you going to have to brew up your own PCI implementation as
well?  I hope not.  If so be prepared for a messy project.  Of course
if you can desing a processor and make it work then I guess your
qualified to implement the PCI bus.
