The RD1-PL BIOS Savior device (see http://www.ioss.com.tw/eg/rd1/index.html)
arrived today and is now working in my system. The quality is good. The
pins that make up the PLCC plug are made of gold plated wire, and the device
plugs smoothly into the BIOS socket on the motherboard with good retention.

The PLCC socket on the device has 4mm long bare metal leads which are like
stilts and mount the socket to the bottom part (circuit and PLCC plug) of
the device. It should be possible to solder wires to the exposed socket
leads and wire them to a 32-pin DIP socket, to provide a way to use a Disk
on Chip with a motherboard that uses a 2MBit PLCC - and have a way to switch
between the standard motherboard BIOS (on the flash part in the RD1) and
your LinuxBIOS on the DoC.

Or, as mentioned in a previous note, you could use a DIP to PLCC adapter
instead of wiring things up yourself.

I think www.mwave.com deserves another plug. This is the second time I have
ordered stuff from them. The prices are competitive, and both orders
arrived in good time with no hassles.

Cheers,
- Jan
