poy, the upgrade process is rock solid due to arne's, yours and my
extensive efforts and testing. The only possible scenario I can imagine
when the above can happen if someone (1.) running and old pre-0.75 or
portable version from the Program Files folder with UAC on, against our
docs' and Microsoft's warning and then (2.) running/installing over the
old version as a different user than the old version has been ran under
(the case has also a warning in our docs).

The installer warns you if you want to put the settings into the Program
Files folder anyway. You can do some check if an old or portable version
are to be upgraded and display some another warning that would be
skipped by most, however, there's no way to detect what user/admin has
ran the old version and what user/admin runs the new one. In this very
case the settings move won't work since UAC maps different folders for
different users.

But even after these wrongdoings by the user the settings are still
available in the UAC virtual store so a support question (FAQ?) should
clear this problem.

I believe this report is not a bug as the issue can be easily avoided
with careness or even using common sense.

  Lost settings

Status in DC++:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Stupid instalation! It lost all my previous settings!  Now I have to
  spend hours to restore that information. Stupid stupid stupid! The
  BACKUP folder has some erratic settings.
