Linux Demo Day struck me as a wonderful plan in it's inception . I thought
that a day that Demonstrations of Linux all over the country , indeed all over the
world , would be a great thing to tout to the press ( local ) and assure their
coverage because it was a local AND (inter)national event . However , having this
demonstration spread out over a week's time saps all of the strength out of our
statements to the local media . The day that we demonstrate will not , in fact ,
be a national event .
We cannot just preach to the choir here ( so to speak ) and I thought that we
had an excellent hook to the general public with this coordinated effort .
There is also a Linux Install day . Couldn't we dedicate the first Sunday to
Demo and the following to Install ? PLEASE reconsider the timing back to a single
day . We have several Months to plan our groups involvement and there is no reason
for this extra flexibility when so much time must be spent in preparation ---
people can lend their hands there as well . The strong coordination is a message
in and of itslef . This message would do more to make the general public take note
than a larger number of LUGs .
Without this , I really don't know what to tell my friend at the local paper
of TV stations . I can't tout our Demonstration as part of a nationally
coordinated demonstration day .
Please let us reconsider ,
