Mail from ILUG-BOM list (Non-Digest Mode)
On observing carefully, we realize that we are talking about two distinct
types of people here. The first are those that understand the power of the
net and other technologies as a power called *information technology*. For
them (us, actually!) HTML is a wonderful way to format information in a
standard, cross-platform way, accessible to all kinds of terminals,
programs, disabilities ... Whenever information is aimed at these people,
it will always follow standards and be optimized for all situations, since
these geeks themselves will be the creaters.

But on the other hand, there are people for whom the equality
"internet=web" holds true. These are the normal 90% (or is it more) who are
more interested in the Visual (pun intended) way of doing things. They form
the bulk target of all the e-commerce related sites who want to woo
customers with the highest form of visual impact. These designers for whom
"internet=bazaar" holds true and who don't care a hoot about the power of
the text terminal and all. All they want is to get the message across in
the most attractive fashion.

Take the onliner on the M$ Frontpage 98 for example: "Professional Web
Sites Without Programming" (there go all the standards!)

Sameer.
