Use RockRidge. It's an extension of Joliet that preserves Unix
file ownership and permission information, so should be readable
on both Windows and Linux. RockRidge is the format that is used
by all Linux distro CDs (including magazine CDs).
mkisofs can create RockRidge ISO images for you. Windows clients
can't since that OS is incapable of handling the extra
information.
