I got ModeX from MikeAb's DDJ columns, reprinted in Zen of Graphics
programming, and then again in his Black book of graphics programming.
Took me a while to figure out the pixel addressing scheme.

The Win95GPE never got quite finished with, IIRC. There was some
discussion of a Linux GPE too, but I don't think it ever happened.
