Not really. KDE and GNOME are so different that it would be quicker to
rewrite everything from scratch. This has been discussed before. What
can be done instead is to modify inter-program communication standards
so that they work with each other, use the same file formats, and so on.
And they're already doing that. KDE has adopted GNOME's EsounD standard,
GNOME comes with a panel applet for KDE dock icons, KDevelop now allows
developing with Gtk+, and they both have a common window manager hints
system. IIRC, KDE's object embedding system (forget its name) will also
be compatible with GNOME's Bonobo.
