Mail from ILUG-BOM list (Non-Digest Mode)

I had kept the system idle without any activity for around 2 hours. I was
logged in on two consoles and with the X-server with WidowMaker. When I
left the machine idle, I was working on WindowMaker. I have not installed
the xscreensaver, but since by default the system goes into screen saver
mode with the blank screen, it had happened so when I returned. The system
got re-activated and surprisingly it was showing almost 90% of the swap
being used and the RAM being totally used. I could see this in the
Dockapp which shows the system load. The moment I switched to console mode
(Ctrl+Alt+F1), there was furious activity with the harddisk and then the
system refused to do anything else. The only thing I could do was
Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart the sytem. Any clues?

I use Red Hat 6.2 (PCQ) on 400 Mhz Celeron 32 MB RAM 70 MB swap.
