No, I didn't know, and I'm a part of all... but anyway, jokes aside,
gnome is a desktop environment, windowmaker is a window manager.
WindowMaker runs on GNOME, not the other way around. GNOME runs over
the X server (actually, it uses the services of the X Server).

It is always working for the above reasons. What isn't running is
Enlightenment - which is the default window manager that runs on GNOME
as installed on RedHat systems.

That is so because they are running on GNOME.
