We have been using it as both server and desktop.
I have'nt had any problems at all. I am shifting
development to Linux and cursing for not doing it
earlier.
The article below is indeed interesting. It's
from an ex M$ employee -very senior- about how
"good" NT and IIS is (compared to Solaris and
FBSD) inside M$.
