1) The charges could be to cover costs.
2) Free is as in free speech not free beer. Any
body is free to charge whatever they fancy. If
somone feels that the charges are ridiculous they
can refuse to participate or organise another
one.
3) The information available to Vinayak & co. is
available to all of us too. Therein lies the
beauty of Open Source - a state of near perfect
competition. I am fairly sure that given some
time to browse the net, everything that will be
said at the seminar will already be available on
the net.
Nothing absurd in charging to save you time and
(browsing) money.
