If you find the following error message in your /var/log/messages file:
kmod: runaway modprobe loop assumed and stopped
Then recompile your kernel with Unix domain sockets in the kernel - ie: do
NOT compile it as a module.
modprobe requires unix domain sockets to write to syslog. If it cannot
find unix.o, it tries to log the error, but of course, it needs uds for
that, and goes into an infinite loop.
kmod limits the maximum number of concurrent modprobe processes, and
terminates it assuming it was a loop. After that, unix.o is successfully
loaded. Compile it into the kernel and it solves the problem.
I am happy to say that there are no longer any boot error messages in my
messages file.
