Configure the host ...
using linuxconf
Give and appropriate domain in the basic host information field
This should the hostname.<fully qualified domain name>

for additional masquerading rules within sendmail , i.e if you want your
host to show as if it is sending mails from another domain try the DM flag
in sendmail.cf
By default sendmail is fully configured except for certain tweaks like
expensive mailing (reply to mails when offline) but that can be done thanks
to the step by step instructions by pcquest in their previous issues
Or use the m4 macro processor to generate sendmail.cf with the appropriate
options
For further enhancements like anti spam .. etc try the anti spam rulesets ,
or the control files..

Once configured ... the mail can be retrieved via pop (port 110) , dunno
much about the config of imap
Just know that its interactive ... mails can be deleted off the server
before downloading it .. if discovered from a spammer's origin ..
Any other person could throw more light on this point
