Hi friends,
Im new to ilug-bom, im newbie and my doubts may sound childish to u, but
please help me, im stuck,

1) It is the problem regarding internet connection. Whennever i connect
   to the net, the connection closes after 1-2 minutes saying pppd daemon
   died unexpectedly. It was corrected automatically or may be due to some
   scripts but a new problem has come up, as soon as i connect connection
is
   closed and it starts redialing.

2) How can we optimise the connection speed. In linux the MTU is set
   to 1500 by default. How can i change it. Also r there any other
   parameters that should be changed for optimising connection speed ?

3) In installation of a lan card, what does following options mean,
   IP :- <is this the IP of ethernet card>
   Host :-  <suppose i set it to xxx>
   Domain :- <and set the domain yyy.com, will the netwok idenfity my
             machine as xxx.yyy.com>
             OR the domain should be same as my NT server in the Lan
   gateway :- <should i give the add of NT server here or leave blank>
   primary name server :- <-----------------"-------------------->
   secondary name server :- <----------------"------------------>
   tertiary name server :- <----------------"------------------->

4) Also when i started the machine first time sendmail took a long time.
   What does sendmail do. And what all daemons r required for working.

5) Has anybody on the list has installed postgres ? It would be very kind
   of someone if ge/she can send me full installation procedure on Redhat.
   Any pointers will also do.

6) Also one more thing how can we enable remote login of root, which
files
   in pam.d should be modified ?

7) Also does purchasing RH-6.0 makes and sense and is it worth it ?

Waiting for replies,

And im happy to be in ilug-bom, but can anybody tell me how to subscribe
linux india, i have tried web interface as well as sent several mails to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] It would be very
kind of u if anyone of u can forward my complain to linux-india.
