Dear Gerry,
I understand that the following costs apply.
MTNL charges some setup don't know what that is.... but they charge a
monthly rental fee of 1000 Rs. In that you get 2 lines and one number.
Each of these are 64 Kbps lines and can be combined to get 128 Kbps or
you use one and get 64 Kbps and keep the other one as a voice line.
They charge per call charges which is the same rate as a normal line.
Initially they had a minimum montly billing of 5000 Rupees which is now
removed.
VSNL charges 5000 Rs as setup fees and per hour rate is double that of a
normal dialup line.
Other costs: ISDN Terminal Adapters (or modems) would cost 15000-20,000.
I think ISDN is a very good alternative and as of now there is no dialup
solution which is faster than ISDN the only hitch is that the initial
costs are high and with any new solutions MTNL and VSNL are having
teething problems, both keep blaming each other if you have a problem.
Ketan Sangvi of WanLand is the best person to consult for ISDN
solutions.
Regards
Prakash
