 if u are dialing using script based method, check the script. also check
 what is happening by opening the log window - to check whether the script
 is running as desired. if not, try terminal based dialing where u will
 have to manually give your loginname and password.
     i am not using script based methos coz when i try to execute the ppp-on
script it gives a message regarding the kernel not configured for ppp
support where the kernel is configured/

  well i tried to exit the mincom program without resetting the modem....and
2 minutes later the modem   disconnects with a NO CARRIER message .Also
someone told me that minicom is only good for shell login not
tcp/ip........is that true?

the script you gave me....well i had previously typed  the same command at
the prompt and it just gives a
   " > "gn where i can enter text but nothing happens....until i ctrl-z it.
