What command are you giving to start your Xwindows. Try using the
command "xinit" and you will get a grey screen with a X-term window (at
least that is what I get ;)  ). Then in the Xterm type "afterstep" or
whichever window manager you want to use and have installed.

You can edit the ".xinit" file. It is in the root (~)  directory, type
ls -a to see it.

Use "pico"
