Hi all, I am facing a weird problem on my RH Linux 5.2 server. On Aug 04, the server (at a remote place) was hung for about 20 mins. and got back to normalcy later automatically. I checked out the logs foll: is the info. -- Aug 4 18:06:01 xyz syslogd 1.3-3: restart -- Aug 4 18:26:01 xyz syslogd 1.3-3: restart. Total 20 mins. (2 records) Again the same thing happened today (aug 5th) in the morning, but it was manually restarted. -- Aug 5 09:30:36 xyz syslogd 1.3-3: restart. (only 1 record) I thought maybe it must have run a 'fsck' for abnormal shutdown, but not a single instance of fsck was recorded. Another observation I made: I checked out the 'cron' file in /var/log, foll: are the details:- >> root (08/04-17:01:00-12355) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly) -- see here -- CRON (08/04-18:02:37-249) STARTUP (fork ok) CRON (08/04-18:26:02-249) STARTUP (fork ok) --- root (08/05-02:01:00-830) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly) -- see here -- CRON (08/05-09:30:36-249) STARTUP (fork ok) root (08/05-10:01:00-445) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly) -- >> Is it that some system cronjob is restarting the system automatically, because the time on which server restarted and the line: "CRON..STARTUP (fork ok)" in the file 'cron' are same. Nothing was found in any cronjobs.. Any inputs! would appreciate a reply as fast as possible, before I witness any other shutdown.. Thanks Kedar. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
