That's the multimedia interface for Windows users. And yes, its getting
replaced.

Check your /etc/smb.conf file for a security= setting. It should read
security=share if you don't want a password prompt. The default with RH6 is
security=user.
I don't know about the error in the log.smb file. Never seen anything like
that.
