ICONS VANISH!!!!

Dear LinuxLovers,                                 After a successful upgrade from kernel 2.0.36-0.7 to 2.2.0-0.3 i have got two boot options now .... either boot into the old kernel or new kernel. The problem arises when : a) i want to keep only the new kernel and remove the old files. b) the icons from XFM have disappeared instead i get DIR-ICO instead of getting folder icons   what sud i do to make things easy for me?
