The driver support enjoyed by M$/NT etc., is not directly provided by
microsoft. The manufacturers of the hardware write the drivers, and also
supply microsoft the internals of how they have made it, so that
software/drivers can be made available to them. If the manufacturers share
the info to linux developers, the drivers will be made available within
weeks. However, the scene is changing very fast now. Most manufacturers
have already began sharing/writing driver information to linux developers.
That is one of the reason why linux has also began growing.
