The 'sometimes pinging' is funny. It is easier if it 'pinged' consistently
or did not ping at all.
Isnt the linksys card an ne2000 compatible ? If so, maybe u could try ne.o
or the pci equivalent ne2k-pci.o
Just my Re 0.02 :-)

Amit

Subject: Re: CHIP CDs and regd meeting at dinesh's place
First I do not have the CHIP CD's ;-)
Well .. extremely sorry about not briefing the LUG about what happened at
dinesh's place
The part I enjoyed the best were the snacks .. Cutlets , samosas ,
sandwitches and some drinks .. oops pepsi/coke
Well we had 2 PC's for installing linux on .. The first PC had a 6G HDD and
was a P166 with 64M Ram
After some speculation we decided to install Mandrake .. looks just like
redhat .. Well I guess it was redhat
The complete installation went through smoothly(except the n/w card
glitches
which was a linksys card 10/100Mbps) and the system was rebooted .. We
thought that we would configure the card after the system came up ..the
linksys driver diskette had a linux driver !!!!
It was a .c file .. which we compiled but alas the n/w would not come up
!!!
inspite of the module being loaded and routes properly set up ..
We tried all stunts from changing the cable / card and switching it to the
100Mb switch and also the 10M hub
But in vain .. it won;t ping any other PC on the segment
Well we decided to install debian on the second PC which was a PIII
The installation was ok (except n/w) however the debian PC fared better ..
sometimes it successfully pinged the other windows PC and sometimes it
didn't :-(
Well eventually I guess the conclusion was linksys sucks .. (Apparently
there was no other reason )
More till the next sunday I guess ..
Well anyone on the list has comments regd this .. Has anyone faced anything
like this before ..
Regards
Sandesh
