SecNet, Workshop on Unix and Internet Security

The SIGNET (Special Interest Group in Networks) group of IIT Bombay and
CSEA (Computer Science and Engineering Association) of IIT Bombay are
organizing a four day workshop on Unix and Internet Security starting
from December 5, 1999 to December 8, 1999.
The target audience are system administrators and network managers of
various organizations like corporate companies, ISPs, banks and
educational institutions who would be interested in learning new
security tools/products in the market. For the same purpose, in
addition to the lectures, we are planning for demonstration of some
limited number of commercial products. The participation fees is
Rs. 3000/-. The registration form is attached herewith.
The workshop comprises of four days of intensive, in-depth lectures
by the faculty of IIT Bombay, technical sessions, and, demonstrations by
the leading practitioners on:
* Basics of Security - Cryptography, Public key, Private Key
Cryptography, Message Digests, Digital Signatures, Authentication
and Privacy Issues.
* Web Security - CGI security, Security issues in E-commerce,
Payment Protocols, Certificates, PKI (Public Key Infrastructure),
SET (Secure Electronic Transactions), SSL (Secure Socket Layer),
Java Application Security.
* Host Security - Active and Passive Attacks such as sniffing,
spoofing, denial of service and their detection, Intrusion
Detection, Tools for Intrusion detection such as Tripwire,
System security analysis, Tools for system security
analysis such as SATAN. File system security, SUID
files, Password cracking, System startup files, Log files.
* Network Security - Firewalls, Secure tunnels, Packet filters,
Application Gateways, Proxy Servers, VPN (Virtual Private
Network), IPSec (IP Security), Security features of IPv6, Secure
DNS.
