You mentioned that MTML uses PAP authentication. Did you set up
the PAP secrets correctly? You can try out the pppd documentation
and the PPP-Howto ...
Also try look in the /var/log/messages log file. The pppd usually
gives enough information about the reason for expiring, for further
investigation.
