Hiyee LIN-Buddies,

This is Trevor Warren & i am using the Redhat 6.0 flavour of
LINUX. My home setup is as follows.

     154.1.1.85-----154.1.1.84-----154.1.1.83-----154.1.1.87
      linux box Win95 Win95 Win95

I am working on LINUX for the past two years but these are some
problems that i haven't just been able to sort out.

------> The mail server just doesn't work.
I am able to send mail via OUTLOOK EXPRESS. But when i try to
recieve mail from the server , things just don't work out.

I guess SMTP(Sendmail) is configured properly as the server recieves
mail, but POP3 isn't working properly. I even checked out whether the POP3
server daemon is running & listening & you bet it is. The POP3 server is
listening on port 110 as i checked it out by a port scanner. Even then the
server refuses to send mail back.

When i check mail OUTLOOK EXPRESS(the version with IE5) responds with the
message that the server has terminated the request. I even tried to telnet
to port 110(POP3:110) & the server immieadiately terminates the request. But
its all ok on the other ports. But sending mail is a breeze. The server
accepts the mail & i even checked it out by reading the mail on the server
via telnet.

------> The Samba client has been configured by the method given in the
previous issues of PCQUEST . But it never shows up in NETWORK NEIGHBOURHOOD.
Even domain logons are not taking place. Apparently windows is not able to
find the LINUX box. I even trien editing the LMHOSTS file both on LINUX &
WINDOWS95 machine , but to no avail . Things are just the same .

                                                        Trevor Warren
