: I have a 1033 MB HDD, with 500MB used as C: and the
: rest unpartitioned free space.

i.e. 533 MB for Linux right ?

: When I try to create a
: root ( /) partition, I get an error "Unallocated
: partition space, boot partition too big".

Hmmm.... thats a new error ... I haven't seen it before ... shall have to
look into it.

How are you creating the partitions ? Custom I presume ( using disk druid /
fdisk ? )
Send more details please...
Are You attemting to create the /boot partion ?

Did U try a previous install which failed (i.e. did U write to FAT table?
=> in this case it is possible the previous install has 'corrupted' the FAT
table ( don't worry ... simply ovewrite the fat table - unused portion - DO
NOT TOUCH Ur DOS partition )....
... In case U can't do it via disk druid...
.. use fdisk...
. or use a dos utility to reformat the unused portion .

press :
"Alt+F3" when installing linux... this will give U the install log screen
also try:
Alt + F4 : system log
Alt + F5 : general logs / messages

Linux will let U know more about the error U are receiving .
send the errors if possible (shortened ) .
